Nicki Minaj was arrested in the Netherlands last Saturday after landing at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport when "dozens of joints" were found in her luggage, according to Dutch police.
Minaj claims that the marijuana was not hers, but rather belonged to her security guard.
"Not being able to get to [the concert in] Manchester, I don't know when was the last time I felt that low, you know?" said Minaj of the incident. Following her arrest, she took to Stationhead, a live streaming platform, to explain herself and detail her run-in with the foreign law.
"I'm not going to get into it and tell you guys the joy they took in it, even while I was there," she said.
She described the scene, saying that "There was one lady there -- all the rest were men -- and I could tell she had a heart."
She also pointed to her identity as a Black woman, insinuating that the alleged poor treatment stemmed from her race.
"Not only that but knowing that something is being done to you on purpose because you are a confident other race," she said.
Minaj continued, going on to call the treatment that she experienced "just disgusting" and to say that she "wouldn't wish that on anyone. And yes, I've been to jail before."
"It has nothing to do with if you've been to jail before," she added.
In response to Minaj's allegations of racism, a Dutch police spokesperson said that it was "annoying that she drew that card" and that "it all went very smoothly."
"We arrested her when we found dozens of joints in her luggage. The lady was released four hours after arrest in consultation with the public prosecutor, and after paying a fine," said the spokesperson.
The police say that they were just doing their job and "it is protocol to search luggage and arrest a person when we find drugs."
"It is illegal to take drugs to another country," they added.
"We stand for a professional organization that treats everybody equals, no matter what," added the spokesperson, "It's annoying if she experienced it that way."
Minaj was arrested in the early evening on Saturday and released later that night. She was fined €350 for carrying the reported "30 to 100 grams of cannabis" in her luggage.
Because of her arrest, Minaj was unable to perform in Manchester on Saturday. She rescheduled the concert to June 3. Her performance in the city on May 30 continued as normal. Minaj has since continued her trek across the U.K., making stops in Birmingham, London and Glasgow.
Though she was set to play a show in Amsterdam on June 2, Minaj will no longer be returning for a performance in the country, per promoter MOJO.
Minaj's case is now closed.
