Halsey has confirmed the official start of her new era with a cryptic letter to fans.

The 29-year-old announced the release of a new single set for June 4. The "Without Me" singer has been using a mysterious website, formylasttrick.com, to tease her upcoming album. The website features several nods to the year 1971, the date June 4, the number 17 and various other vintage images and slogans.

Fans were quick to notice that one digital sticker had been updated. Two stickers of tickets that read "Columbia Cinema," a swirling red question mark, an obscured photo of Halsey and a message reading "The End." The sticker is interactive, leading fans to a letter written by the artist with one click.

"Hello, it's Halsey. It's been a while," begins the letter, written on yellowing paper in a typwriter font.

"As you may have guessed, I have written a new album. But I needed some time to figure out how to say what I needed to say...there's so much I'm going to reveal on this record, but you need to know some of the story first," reads the letter.

"So before the chaos and confetti of big singles and album releases I just need to tell you, my friend, why it all matters this time. I'm releasing a new song on June 4. It's just for us. Let's start at THE END," Halsey concludes, signing off with an illegible signature. "June 71" is written at the bottom of the letter, continuing the "1971" motif that persists throughout formylasttrick.com.

Halsey also attached a new audio snippet to a different sticker. Clicking the image, featuring a cartoon doctor performing an x-ray on a patient with a larger-than-life heart, triggers an eerie sound. The murky, glitchy clip drones on for 20 seconds.

One fan took the image to be a reference to "Easier Than Lying," a song from Halsey's most recent LP, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, where she sings "My heart is massive but it's empty."

While the audio clip sounds indistinguishable, fans claimed to hear some words buried under the muck. One heard "Can you hear me? I'm drowning," another "I'm nervous." One said that the sound reminded them of an ultrasound, others heard a "machine."

The new single, assumed to be titled "The End," releases June 4. Halsey's fifth album does not yet have a title or release date.
