Anitta opened up about the glaring effect of birth control pills on her body.
Speaking on the Jay Shetty's "On Purpose" podcast, the Brazilian pop star said her birth control was "not natural" for her.
"I felt it was unfair that only women have to deal with it. Hormones made life crazy for me. I couldn't be myself," she explained. "My body didn't respond well to hormonal birth control."
After taking pills, Anitta suffered side effects like hair loss, skin breakout, mood swings, and depression, and when she's close to her period, she has no energy - describing the mixture of side effects as a "rollercoaster."
Eventually, the "Girl from Rio" singer stopped taking medications, but it took her more than a year to clear out the birth control from her system.
"When I started living a more natural life, including a mostly vegan diet, I felt better," Anitta revealed of her lifestyle change. "I managed two years [as vegan] and now I'm back, but 30 percent less [meat]. If everyone makes small changes, it's already a big shift for the universe."
Elaborating more on her honest thoughts about pregnancy and sexual politics, Anitta became candid about her opinion about the idea of men getting pregnant.
"If men got pregnant, things would be very different. People don't realize the side effects of birth control on mood, performance and overall well-being," Anitta argued.
Instead of taking contraceptive pills, Anitta opted to have a copper intrauterine device (IUD) injected into her uterus to prevent further pregnancies; however, that made her endometriosis worse.
"I had a copper IUD, which was terrible for my endometriosis and caused a lot of bleeding," the singer confirmed. "Now, I use condoms. They exist for a reason."
Despite holding off getting pregnant soon, Anitta disclosed that she wants to be a mother in the future, hence the temporary alternatives.
"I pray to the universe and plan when it's time for me to have children. I want to be ready and have a good partner," she said about motherhood.
Anitta's confession came days after she admitted to the Today show that she thought she was "going to die" in 2022 after battling a mystery illness.
"I was super, super unhealthy. I got really sick and was so physically ill I couldn't work," Anitta remembered. "I hadn't stopped working in so many years. It was a big wake up call that I physically couldn't do many things that I loved doing because of my health. I had to take time to take care of myself."
