Songwriter-producer The-Dream's alleged private text messages to his former protégée - now-accuser - have been shared after the bombshell federal lawsuit came to light.
The artist, born Terius Adamu Ya Gesteelde-Diamant, has been named as the defendant in the lawsuit filed by singer/songwriter Chanaaz Mangroe. In the legal documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Mangroe accused The-Dream of promising her fame and fortune after "luring" her into "his deeply sadistic world," where she experienced rape and physical abuse.
After the filing emerged on Tuesday, June 4, RadarOnline.com released screenshots of the alleged text messages, showing how their "fruitful business relationship" became toxic.
The-Dream and Mangroe reportedly met in 2014 while the latter was hoping to score her big break as a singer and songwriter in the U.S. after moving from the Netherlands. The plaintiff accused the producer of leading the "vulnerable artist into an abusive, violent and manipulative relationship" in 2015.
Mangroe also named The-Dream's label Contra Paris, LLC and Epic Records as defendants.
"I Will need to know things u think or embarrassed about to the furthest extent," one text read, while another showed, "I'm going to be your better half of this goes where I think it's going."
The following texts read, "I let u know after we win 10 Grammys together" and "Right now u just have to be free and let me undress u emotionally do I can know what's underneath your heart."
"Dream told Ms. Mangroe that to write songs for her, he needed to know everything about her, including everything that embarrassed her, upset her, angered her, and excited her - every single thought she had," the filing read.
The-Dream, according to the lawsuit, reportedly told Mangroe she needed to "belong" to him so they could become the next Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
In her lawsuit, Mangroe noted that she needed to tell her story to heal, as her silence "had been too painful."
The accused producer denied the claims through a statement to The New York Times, calling them "untrue and defamatory."
"I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations," said The-Dream.
