Long before writing the hit song from The Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift was caught in a moment of desperation, shouting out, "But daddy, I love him!" to her father, Scott.

During a 2008 interview with PopSugar that was recently rediscovered on TikTok, the "Fortnight" singer reminisced about a disagreement she once had with her father regarding her significant other.

After a moment of intense teenage emotion, Swift recalled the spark that ignited the creation of "Love Story," a song featured on her album, Fearless.

"This song, I wrote it right after my one epic teenage tantrum that I ever threw in my whole life," Swift said in 2008.

"And I remember screaming something like 'But daddy, I love him!' and running out and storming into my room and slamming the door and then I sat down on the floor and wrote this song."

The song "But Daddy, I Love Him" by Swift which is featured on TTPD digs into the theme of a forbidden love affair. In it, the 14-time Grammy winner finds herself entangled in a passionate romance with a man despite the opposition from her family and the community around her.

Part of the lyrics goes, "Now I'm running with my dress unbuttoned / Screaming 'But Daddy I love him!' / I'm having his baby / No, I'm not, but you should see your faces."

Amid the controversial aura surrounding her high-profile fling with The 1975's Matty Healy last year, speculations arose about the song "But Daddy, I Love Him," suggesting a link to a tumultuous relationship that left people questioning their compatibility.

Within the song's fiercest verse, Swift proclaims, "I'll tell you something right now / I'd rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning / I'll tell you something about my good name, it's mine alone to disgrace / I don't cater to all these vipers dressed in empaths' clothing."

Meanwhile, a recent revelation revealed that despite the public scandals surrounding Healy, Swift's perception of him remained unaffected.

As disclosed by a source to People magazine back in June 2023, these controversies also played no role in the couple's eventual split.

"He likes to provoke a response out of people," according to the insider. Then they expressed concern for the singer, saying Swift is "a grown woman more than capable of forming her own opinions about people. No one forces her into anything, especially not these days. She's on top of the world."
