Howard University's Board of Trustees unanimously voted to strip Diddy of the Honorary Degree they bestowed on him in 2014.
According to The Dig, Howard University's official publication, the Board has expressed its disgust at Diddy's actions after watching his brutal assault on Cassie Ventura.
"This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree. Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University," the university said in a statement.
According to them, Diddy's behavior in the brutal assault video is "so fundamentally incompatible" with the university's core values that he is "deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution's highest honor."
"The Board has also directed the University administration to immediately take the following actions: terminate a 2016 gift agreement with Mr. Combs, disband the scholarship program in his name, return his $1 million contribution, and terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation," they furthered.
The Board of Trustees also pointed out that the Sean Combs Foundation has yet to give its $1 million pledge to the university. Therefore, no funds will be returned to them in the first place - only the termination of the pledge in its entirety.
In May 2024, Rolling Stone published a report detailing Diddy's history of abuse way back to his days at Howard University.
An eyewitness alleged that the rap mogul beat his then-girlfriend with what seemed to be a belt when he was still studying in the late 1980s.
"[He] whupped her butt - like really whupped her butt," an eyewitness recalled the rapper whipping his then-girlfriend with a belt "all over the place."
Another student at the time also came forward and described the "Bad Boy for Life" rapper as "belligerent" during the public encounter. The eyewitness remembered the rapper screaming outside the university's Harriet Tubman Quadrangle and hearing other women screaming in panic because of what Diddy was doing.
Diddy attended Howard University in 1987 but later dropped out to pursue his dream of becoming a rapper. In 2014, he returned to the university and received an honorary degree before delivering a commencement speech for the graduating class.
