It's been almost a decade since One Direction announced its hiatus, and many fans are still waiting for it to make a big comeback even though its members have solo music careers. More recently, Simon Cowell, one of the key people in charge of arranging them together on X-Factor UK, revealed the future of the boyband.
The famed TV personality recently appeared on The Diary of a CEO podcast with host Steven Barlett, where he discussed the band he used to manage.
Band members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson got together on X-Factor UK in 2010. They became a global phenomenon after being formed on the reality TV singing competition show. They eventually signed under Cowell's Syco Music record label.
When asked in the podcast if the famed TV star thinks the band will reunite for a comeback, he answered: "I doubt it."
In the interview, he discussed his biggest regret from working with the band: not owning the One Direction name himself because each of the former members owns a percentage of their name.
"If one band member says for whatever reason that they don't want to tour, it can stop the others from touring," he said.

Cowell went on to discuss that if he had the chance to own the name, a tour with only three members could still go on, and he later joked, "If you're listening, I'll buy it back from you."
The recent news came after Rolling Stone reported that Simon Cowell would hold auditions to look for the next big boy band. The process will be filmed and featured in a "potential documentary series."
The TV star will hold auditions in Newcastle, London, and Liverpool, and the docuseries will be produced by Box to Box Films.
"Every generation deserves a megastar boyband and I don't think there has been one to have the success of One Direction in over 14 years," Cowell said in a statement.
Later, he noted that the project's future is uncertain as there is still no guaranteed path to success, but regardless, Cowell is excited about the auditions.
Aside from being credited for the successes of One Direction, the judge was also involved with other groups such as PrettyMuch, CNCO, Little Mix, and Fifth Harmony.
