Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are still trying to dissuade the public from thinking they are in the brink of a massive split.
In Touch Weekly sources have gathered that the united front that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck presented during the latter's son's basketball match last June 2, 2024, in Santa Monica, Calif. "was so awkward."
"They didn't show any real affection like a normal married couple, but they had these big smiles on their faces like they were faking it for the cameras," an insider told the outlet about the awkward encounter.
Apparently, the couple has been doing that to the public for quite a while now. The outlet also reported that Affleck had "reluctantly agreed" to formally announce their breakup as Lopez requested.
The source also described Lopez as "falling to pieces" as "it's definitely over between them." The "Let's Get Loud" singer's frustration doubled after she canceled her summer tour due to poor ticket sales, a dismal musical-movie performance, and a lukewarm reception of her comeback album.
"She's lost everything. Between dealing with crisis management and intense heartbreak, she's told friends she needs help," the source said.
Lopez was reportedly "humiliated" to learn that her romance and marriage with Affleck were "over already after just two years."
"She's been crying all the time, going from anger to despair to delusion and even having panic attacks. She's saying she can't imagine a scenario where she can exist without Ben in her life, which is putting a ton of pressure on him," the source shared.
As for Affleck, he's careful about his actions toward Lopez. According to the source, "the last thing he wants to do is hurt" his wife as he "still loves and respects her."
"Ben wants to do this in a civilized way and make sure the transition is as smooth as possible for the kids," the source noted, revealing that Affleck wants to organize everything first before announcing their divorce so there would be no messy court battle.
However, Lopez is "still clinging to the possibility that they can turn things around," even begging Affleck to give their marriage a "second chance."
Sadly, Affleck's mind is made up.
"The divorce is happening; it's just a question of timing," the insider confirmed. "Ben is telling friends that he's looking forward to the next chapter. He wants a life with serenity and peace, and escaping this roller-coaster will be a relief."
