Linda Perry has kept a big secret from the public for years, but now, she's ready to let her fans into her personal life by telling her health journey through a documentary.

In an interview with People magazine, the musician revealed that she secretly battled breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy in 2021. Years after her diagnosis, the singer said she feels "lucky" as her illness was detected during its early stages.

"I feel so lucky because there's so many women that don't get that opportunity," she said.

Perry revealed that she realized she had the illness while preparing for an elective breast reduction surgery. Following the operation, her doctors submitted the tissue for further evaluation and later found out that she had triple-negative cancer in her breast.

Unfortunately, triple-negative cancer tends to grow and spread faster compared to other types of cancer, and treatments for this condition are limited.

"My doctor basically said the cancer that I had was the kind that she finds in people where they have six months to maybe two years to live," she explained, adding that she would've never detect the cancer had she not underwent the surgery because she would only brush it off as something stressful.

To treat her cancer, her doctors suggested for her to have radiation treatment and a double mastectomy, which she thought was a "no-brainer."

Perry further discussed that by the time her cancer was detected, she was in the middle of filming Let It Die, and she didn't let her condition hinder her way from completing the project.

In the interview, the musician also opened up about her divorce from her ex-wife, Sara Gilbert, whom she married in 2014.

The ex-couple finalized their divorce in 2021, but despite separating, they continued being "best friends."

"We're never not going to be a family... There doesn't feel like much of a separation because we're always together," she said.

The actress and the singer are also co-parenting their nine-year-old child named Rhodes.

"It's really a beautiful relationship... And I'm just so lucky to have that because when you separate from your baby's parent, that can go all different types of crazy and messy, and it's not like that at all," she said of her connection with Gilbert today.
