Did Matty Healy even love Taylor Swift when they were together last year?
In May 2023, shimmering with happiness, Swift radiated excitement over her latest romance with Healy just weeks after her split from Joe Alwyn. Swift and Alwyn dated for six years.
"She's happier than she's been in a long time," an insider revealed to Us Weekly during that time.
Individuals close to Healy and Swift had secretly messaged a journalist from New York magazine who featured The 1975's front man in an article, insisting that "This time, it's real."
In an Eras Tour concert, the "Love Story" singer told the audience, per People magazine, "I've just never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life, ever before." She went on to say, "it's not just the tour."
But a few weeks later, an insider revealed to ET that Swift and Healy broke up.
"They are both extremely busy and realized they're not really compatible with each other."
Another source told Page Six, "Everyone who really knows her has been saying all along that this was a fun, good-time thing that would last as long as it lasted and would be no big deal once it was done."
However, despite their short-lived romance, many of the songs on Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department, were about Healy.
Fast forward to a few months later, Swift goes public with Travis Kelce. Though many people believe she is going to marry the Kansas City Chiefs athlete eventually, it doesn't mean she doesn't care about the recent engagement of Healy to his girlfriend-of-one-year, Gabbriette Bechtel.
An insider told Life and Style magazine that the "Clara Bow" singer was "shocked" and started to question if the "Chocolate" singer even loved her.
"[Swift] wasn't surprised to hear that [Healy] was seriously dating someone, I mean, so was she, but she was shocked to learn that he was already engaged."
"She's happily moved on to [Kelce] and couldn't be happier, but a little part of her questions if [Healy] was ever really into her."
Meanwhile, a cryptic message from Swift regarding Healy's prospective life partner was even featured on her latest album.
Diving into their whirlwind love affair, Swift penned songs on her recent album expressing how Healy may be "crazy but he's the one I want".
Within the lyrics of her song "Fortnight," Swift expressed a deep emotional pain, revealing a desire to harm whoever Healy chose to be with.
"And for a fortnight there, we were forever / Run into you sometimes, ask about the weather / Now you're in my backyard, turned into good neighbors / Your wife waters flowers, I wanna kill her."
