Johnny Canales, popularly known for being a legendary Tejano musician and a television host to promote Norteño and Tejano music in the US, has passed away at 77.

According to Billboard, Canales was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, but moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, as a child.

The musician has been fond of music since his early days, as it manifested in his music career as a singer. Despite being passionate about music, television hosting launched him into popularity.

Canales became a regular fixture on the Univision network from 1988 to 1996 with his The Johnny Canales Show. Starring in the program enabled him to entertain countless Mexicans living in the United States.

He featured regional Mexican artists on his show, such as Los Tigres del Norte, Los Elámpagos del Norte, and Intocable. He was also a significant part of Selena Quintanilla's career.

In 1997, the singer transferred to Telemundo, where he continued having a program for many years.

Unfortunately, the singer also underwent a tragic moment in his life when he suffered a stroke in 2008; the condition affected him physically as he lost his mobility, which ultimately resulted in him leaving the entertainment industry.

Earlier this year, he appeared to have recovered from his illness in appearances, but he became weaker until his death.
