George Strait just elevated his legendary status to a whole new level. He is now the record holder for the artist with the largest ticketed single concert in the United States.
According to Consequence, the musician broke the record during his show at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, over the weekend. Over 110,905 fans attended the show.
Strait dethroned previous record-holders, The Grateful Dead, who performed in front of 107,019 fans at their Raceway Park concert in New Jersey in 1977.
For his record-breaking show, Strait performed some of his biggest hits, including "Check Yes or No," "Amarillo By Morning," "Here for a Good Time," and many more. He also gave fans his rendition of "Waymore's Blues," originally sung by Waylon Jennings, and a new track titled "MIA in MIA" from his new album Cowboys And Dreamers.
Aside from Strait holding the record, Kyle Field also amassed its biggest attendance record, which was previously recorded in October 2014 when the A&M football team played Ole Miss.
15 KRHD reported that Strait's show was in demand, and nearby hotels and accommodations immediately sold out 30 minutes after the musician announced his show.
"It all happened very fast, and within 30 minutes, we were completely booked. It was insane," Chloe Weihausen of Hotel McCoy College Station said in an interview, adding, "Because it all happened so quickly, I don't think that we were able to match the competition here in town. But lucky for a lot of people like they only spent around 200 for a stay here."
The singer's next show will be at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, UT, on June 29, 2024, before he visits his last few shows in Detroit, Chicago, and Las Vegas.
