Joe Alwyn recently broke his silence more than a year after he and Taylor Swift broke up, and the reason why he decided to speak out about the matter was because he had suffered from depression and was "emotionally drained" due to the questions surrounding his split from the pop star.

According to a source who spoke with Daily Mail, the actor spoke out about his situation in an interview with the Times, hoping the public would move on from his connection with Swift for good.

"Joe wanted to get this over with once and for all so he can move forward with his life and his career," the insider said.

Initially, Alwyn wanted to remain silent about the breakup and was hoping that everything would go away, but that didn't happen, which led to him being affected emotionally and mentally.

"It became depressing and emotionally draining," the insider said.

"Taylor has made a fortune off their breakup by forming an entire album around it. Meanwhile, he has been cast as 'Taylor's ex,'" the source added.

The insider further noted that the couple decided to keep their relationship out of the spotlight and preferred it that way, which was contrary to the pop star's romance with Travis Kelce today.

For his plans, Alwyn has already moved on and wanted to be asked questions surrounding his career and films, not about his relationship with the pop singer.

"He wishes her no ill will, but he also needed her to know that appearing to address their relationship without confirming who she is singing about can have a lasting and hurtful effect on the people/ men involved," the source noted.

The recent news comes after Joe Alwyn, whom Swift dated from 2016 to 2023, spoke with the Times, where he finally addressed his breakup with Swift more than a year after they reportedly split.

In the cover story, the Kinds of Kindness actor said he hopes the public can empathize and understand the difficulties after ending a "loving, fully committed relationship" that lasted more than six years.

He went on to say that he found it "unusual" that the public already shared their opinion about the breakup just a week after they ended things.
