Britney Spears' fans are rallying to boost her 2011 song "Criminal" up the charts following Justin Timberlake's DWI arrest.

One of Britney's prominent fan groups, the X account Britney Stan, with nearly 70,000 followers, encouraged supporters to purchase her track "Criminal" as a pointed response to her ex's legal troubles.

"Fans are buying "Criminal" by Britney Spears after Justin Timberlake's arrest," Britney Stan tweeted on Tuesday morning. The post came with a clip from the music video.

BritneyTheStan, also posted on X: "Justin Timberlake who once told Britney she needed to stop drinking in 2007 has been ARRESTED for drunk driving. Britney Spears deserves an apology! #JusticeForBritney."

This tweet referenced remarks Timberlake made in 2007 while accepting a Brit Award, which were perceived as directed at his former partner. He stated, "Stop drinking! You know who you are. I'm speaking to you. You are going to get sloppy. OK! magazine is going to say something bad about you," he said, as reported by Fox News.

Timberlake has faced criticism from Britney's fans over the years, particularly intensified following the release of her 2023 memoir, The Woman In Me.

The book detailed several contentious aspects of their relationship, including allegations that he encouraged her to have an abortion and portrayed her in a negative light in public perception.

In January, Spears supporters propelled her 2011 song "Selfish" up the charts after her ex released a new single with the same title. Timberlake's "Selfish" was the lead track on his latest album Everything I Thought It Was, marking his return to the studio since 2018's Man Of The Woods.

Spears' memoir also criticized Timberlake's 2002 hit "Cry Me a River" for its portrayal of her.

After their split, Justin Timberlake's career surged with albums and songs marketed around the narrative that Britney Spears had broken his heart. The music video for "Cry Me A River" notably featured a Spears lookalike, contributing to her vilification after their breakup.

In 2018, Timberlake revealed he was so emotional post-split that he wrote "Cry Me a River" in just two hours.

However, Spears' 2023 memoir unveiled that she became pregnant by Timberlake in 2000 and underwent an abortion because he "didn't want to be a father."

She described the decision as agonizing, having conceived at 19 while both dreamt of starting a family despite Timberlake feeling unprepared for parenthood.

Just months after Spears accused him of cheating, urging her to have an abortion, and breaking up with her via text, Timberlake boldly debuted new music and performed classics at Irving Plaza.

The pop star introduced his breakout 2002 hit "Cry Me a River" with an unexpected statement, captured in crowd footage on Instagram: "I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f**king nobody."
