Stevie Nicks opened up about the future of Fleetwood Mac and the death of her best friend and bandmate Christine McVie in 2022.

Nicks described McVie's death as "stunningly strange" because there was no indication or lead-up to it.

"We got a call, and I was going to rent a plane and go see her, but her family said, 'Don't come, because she may not be here tomorrow.' And the next day, she passed away," Nicks emotionally recalled in an interview with MOJO. "I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her - which definitely would have made her pass away faster. But I needed to be with her. And I didn't get to do that. So that was very hard for me. I didn't get to say goodbye."

Asked whether she would be open for Fleetwood Mac to reunite, Nicks responded swiftly.

"Without Christine, no can do," Nicks revealed. "There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn't work."

McVie died in November 2022 because of a stroke, with a secondary cause of death listed as cancer, as she was diagnosed with "metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin."

"On behalf of Christine McVie's family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine's death," the statement read, obtained by People. "She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th, 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family's privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally."

Nicks also discussed working with Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingnam. Notably, Buckingham and Nicks had a strained relationship after he was fired from the band in 2018.

"Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he's had some health problems," Nicks said about Buckingham's 2019 hospitalization for his open-heart surgery. "It's not for me to say, but I'm not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It's so demanding."
