After the death of James Morrison's estranged wife, an inquiry was conducted at the Coroner's Court in Gloucestershire nearly half a year after the incident.

The 39-year-old "Broken Strings" crooner mourned the loss of his wife, Gill Catchpole, in early January when he discovered her lifeless body in their residence in Gloucestershire, UK, on January 5.

The news came to light after a worried friend noticed a note pinned to the entrance of their home shortly after they had parted ways, as revealed during a recent inquest, according to Manchester Evening News.

The handwritten note reportedly said, "Don't come in, call the police."

Upon being alerted by a worried friend, Morrison headed to the neighboring residence where he resided. Using a set of keys, he entered the premises and discovered the lifeless body of his ex-partner.

Emergency services were promptly summoned, and Catchpole was officially declared dead.

After a thorough investigation, Detective Sergeant David Kania concluded that there was no third-party involvement in the untimely demise.

He said, "One of the deceased's acquaintances stumbled upon a piece of A4 paper bearing the alarming message, 'Do not enter. Alert the authorities instead . . . the officer declared in an official statement."

"The friend went to the house and raised the ex-partner, who located a set of keys to the annex house whereupon they entered and found the deceased. Upon entering the living room, I saw a series of handwritten notes on the lounge table, which were addressed to the deceased's ex-partner, family, and friends."

"There were no signs of a disturbance or third-party involvement. It has been relayed to me that close friends and family had indicated that [Catchpole] had been suffering with her mental health for the last year or so and since the split from her ex-partner. It is likely that this had a further negative detrimental impact on her mental health which culminated in her taking actions which led to her untimely death."

Following an analysis conducted after death, it was also revealed that the primary cause of death was determined to be ligature suspension, according to The Guardian. The succeeding toxicological examinations revealed a notable alcohol concentration of 190mg per 100ml of blood, well exceeding the legal limit for driving under the influence set at 80mg per 100ml of blood.

From the information presented in court, it was revealed that Catchpole had been grappling with kidney disease starting in 2008, leading to a kidney transplant down the line.

Dr. Emma Basker highlighted in a written statement that in addition to battling kidney issues, Catchpole had been struggling with persistent mental health challenges like anxiety and PTSD. The treatment plan included medication, counseling, and psychological therapy to address these issues.

Coroner Roland Wooderson officially documented the conclusion of suicide in the region of Gloucestershire.

"It is quite clear to me that, sadly, at the relevant time, [Catchpole] was in a difficult place mentally. It is entirely clear to me that the contents of those notes indicate that [Catchpole] unfortunately was in a very difficult place at the time of her death."
