The cause of death of James Morrison's wife, Gillian Catchpole, has been determined days after she was found dead.

Morrison's family faced a tragedy after the singer's wife was found dead at their Gloucestershire home.

Authorities from the Gloucestershire Constabulary revealed they found the body of a woman in her 40s following a call regarding her welfare. They soon identified her as Catchpole, with whom Morrison shares his two children with.

Media outlets clarified that her death was not suspicious and no foul play was involved.

The Mirror cited a coroner's ruling, confirming that Catchpole died at their family home on Friday, January 5, after a concerned friend found it hard to get inside the property. It then disclosed that the post-mortem's provisional cause of death was ligature suspension.

Self-strangulation by ligature is different from hanging, as it refers to a way in which a ligature is knotted and tightened like a tourniquet to restrict air and compress the vein.

Samples were reportedly taken from Catchpole's body for toxicological analysis, but Dr. Terry Jones gave the provisional cause of death.

Following the loss, Morrison is said to be "holding it together" for the sake of their children."

"James is devastated and is being supported by his family," the family friend said. "He is holding it together for their girls but has asked for the family to be left alone to grieve in private."

Days before Catchpole's death, she appeared to be looking for a new home in Whitminster.

Before Catchpole's death, Marrison told the Irish Mirror in 2019 that his partner's kidneys only worked at 35 percent and that she nearly died while giving birth to their younger daughter.

Morrison and Catchpole immediately felt the spark when they met as soon as she moved into his mother's home as a lodger when he was 17. She was with her then-boyfriend at that time.

Three months after the boyfriend moved out following their split, Catchpole and Morrison started dating.
