Decades ago, rumors circulated about Sean Penn that he allegedly hit his ex-wife, Madonna, with a baseball bat to the point that SWAT went to his house to confront him about the issue.
More recently, the actor broke his silence and revealed that the long-circulating rumors aren't true.
Penn recently spoke to the New York Times about the issue, saying the authorities got involved with the incident as SWAT came to his house.
"I said: 'I'm not coming out. I'm going to finish my breakfast.' The next thing I knew, windows were being broken all around the house and they came in. They had me in handcuffs," he said.
In addition, he also dated another woman who confronted him about the issue, and he remembered her looking at him like he had killed her dog, adding that he didn't know what she was talking about.
Madonna and Sean Penn were married from 1985 to 1989, and during the period of their marriage, rumors circulated that they had a turbulent relationship.
Despite their not-so-perfect romance and divorce, the actor admitted that pop royalty will always have a place in his heart, saying, " She's someone I love."
"It turns out it's a lot quicker to repair a friendship after divorce if there are not kids involved. It took [ex-wife Robin Wright] and I quite a while. There was a lot of drama. Much more important to repair it if there are kids involved, but no easy swing, right?" he added.
This wasn't the first time the alleged abuse was discussed as Madonna herself spoke about it and denied the rumors, saying although they had more than one argument during their relationship, the actor has never tied or physically assaulted her.
"Any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false," she said.
In 2016, the ex-couple reunited for a charity gala at Art Basel in Miami to help the African nation of Malawi.
At the time, the singer auctioned off memorabilia, art collection, and more.
It came to the point when the musician joked that she was still in love with Penn and she was willing to get married to the actor again as long as he bid $150,000.
Here's an old video of them, when things were so much simpler:
