Will Smith is preparing to conquer the music industry two years after his infamous Oscars slap.
On Sunday, June 30, the BET Awards will present performances and honor the artists in the industry. The ceremony will also reportedly see Smith perform his new, original song.
According to NBC News, there have been sources who claimed Smith has been working on a new album following his cameo with J Balvin at the Coachella Festival in April. The Men in Black actor wore his notable costume to join the Columbia star's UFO-themed performance.
"From his start as a rapper to 'The Fresh Prince' to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage," said Connie Orlando, EVP specials, music programming and music strategy at BET. "We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed."
It will serve as Smith's first major solo performance over two years following the infamous slap heard around the world. The incident, involving Chris Rock, happened after the latter made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith.
Will has since apologized twice, but he was still banned from Academy events for 10 years.
"I was fogged out by that point. It's all fuzzy. I've reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he's not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out," he said in his first on-camera apology on YouTube. "So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you."
