Taylor Swift's name was part of a leaked memo detailing an intricate plan to replace incumbent President Joe Biden on the 2024 Democratic ticket, Radar Online sources revealed.
The leaked memo was reported to have been crafted by Georgetown law professor Rosa Brooks and venture capitalist Ted Dintersmith. In it, they proposed a unique process for selecting a new candidate for the Democratic Party for the upcoming 2024 general elections in the country.
The move came after President Biden's disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump in Atlanta last June 2024.
Per the memo, Biden is scheduled to step down as the Democratic nominee in mid-July 2024, which will initiate a "blitz primary" in which potential candidates, including Oprah and Swift, will enter the race. Michelle Obama is also included in the list.
Delegates will then choose which person to replace Biden through a ranked-choice voting system before it will be declared at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Aug. 19, 2024.
The selected candidate, coming from the likes of Swift, Oprah, and Michelle, shall be introduced on stage along with President Biden, former President Barack Obama, and former President Bill Clinton.
"We can limp to shameful, avoidable democracy-ending defeat, Or Democrats can make this Our Finest Hour," the leaked memo read. "While we hope for help from Lord Almighty, the Lord helps those who help themselves. We need to act. Now."
Swift hasn't spoken about President Joe Biden or who she will be voting for in the upcoming general elections in November 2024. While she had supported Biden in 2020, she waited until October that year to express her support for the Democratic ticket.
As one of the most influential people in the world, Swift's support is decidedly a factor in how many voters will pay attention to the election.
A Newsweek-exclusive poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies found that 18 percent of voters said they would more likely vote for the candidate endorsed by Swift. Forty-five percent of the poll's participants said they are Swifties.
"Celebrity power in elections has grown because celebrity power itself has grown," communications consultant James Haggerty told the outlet. "Media and social media are now the central organizing framework of many Americans' lives. And in a world awash in messages, it's the celebrity voices that really resonate."
