Taylor Swift finished her 113th Eras Tour concert in Zürich, Switzerland, and many fans were shocked after she performed an old song from her earlier era that was thought to be about her ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas. However, there seems to be a significant reason why she included the track in her setlist.
According to Page Six, the pop singer played "Last Kiss" in a piano mashup with her other song "Sad Beautiful Tragic," during the acoustic set of her long-running series of concerts.
The outlet clarified that although Swift and Jonas split more than a decade ago, the musician seemingly performed the track because its lyrics contain "July 9," the same day as her show in the city.
"I do recall now the smell of the rain, fresh on the pavement, I ran off the plane / That July 9th, the beat of your heart / It jumps through your shirt, I can still feel your arms," she sang.
This wasn't the first time Swift performed the song, as she did the same thing on July 8, 2023, during her concert in Kansas City.
According to People magazine, Jonas and Swift first sparked dating rumors in 2008. They initially denied their romance as the pop star insisted they were just "friends."
"He's an amazing guy and anybody would be lucky to be dating him," the singer told the outlet. They later attended the MTV VMAs that year, with fans speculating that they were dating.
By November 2008, Swift released the song "Forever & Always," a track seemingly inspired by her short-lived romance with the Jonas Brothers singer.
The pop singer later appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, infamously revealing that Jonas had broken up with her through a 25-second phone call.
"Some day, I'm gonna find somebody really, really, really great, who's right for me... When I find that person that is right for me, he'll be wonderful and when I look at that person, I'm not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18," she said.
The actor later addressed the split in a post on his Myspace account, clarifying that he never cheated on any of his girlfriends and noted that he called to discuss his feelings with the other person, but they were not well received.
