In a news release from the US Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, on Friday, July 19, 'Beautiful Girls' singer Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud.
The prosecutors said they committed a scheme of more than $1 million worth of fraud. Now, the rapper and 61-year-old Turner are facing decades in prison.
Kingston and Turner appeared in federal court in South Florida for the first time on Friday. Prosecutors said that if found guilty on any of the six charges, they may spend up to 20 years behind bars.
According to the US Attorney's Office, the defendants "unjustly enriched themselves by falsely representing that they had executed bank wire or other monetary payment transfers."
The arrest warrants claimed that the two and other individuals defrauded several companies, including a jeweller, a luxury furniture manufacturer, an exclusive car dealer, and a TV and entertainment system manufacturer, between October 2023 and March of this year. They are accused of using fake documents, such as bank wire transfers and payment transfers, to purchase the products and then trying to keep them after failing to pay for them.
Nearly two months ago, he was arrested in California after a SWAT squad stormed his rented mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida. According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the singer was reportedly arrested on a Florida warrant for multiple counts of theft and fraud. His mother was also taken into custody the same day.
Furthermore, the court documents reported that Kingston was released on a $10,000 cash bond on Friday, and Turner was freed on a $5,000 cash bond.
The two are scheduled to appear in court again on Friday, Aug. 9.
