Childish Gambino Releases Final Album 'Bando Stone and the New World'

On Friday, July 19, actor and musician Donald Glover, known as Childish Gambino, released his last album, 'Bando Stone and the New World.'

Gambino's final album is now available on streaming services, concluding Glover's artistic career, which lasted a remarkable 13 years. It comes two months after the release of Atavista, the previous album he called the "finished version" of his 2020 album, 3.15.20.

The 17-track album will serve as the soundtrack for the same-titled film, including the hits 'In the Night,' with Jorja Smith and Amaarae, and 'Lithonia.' A trailer for the film was shown by Glover earlier this summer at the 2024 BET Awards and during 'A Quiet Place: Day One' screenings. Glover has yet to release the film, and it is unclear when it will come.

Glover told The New York Times about starting a new chapter in his career that giving up the Childish Gambino name was an easy decision.

"It really was just like, 'Oh, it's done,'" he said. "It's not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn't need to build in this way anymore."

He claimed that the concept for the Bando Stone film came from an idea he had of a musician recording his masterpiece on a remote island as the rest of the world devolves into chaos. He said, "I thought it was a really great journey when somebody was making music and didn't know what the purpose was."

Glover added, "I think that's something that everyone experiences, not just artists. that sensation of wondering why any of this is happening."

Furthermore, Gambino will kick off The New World Tour throughout the summer and fall. The tour will be a heartfelt farewell to the persona that many people have grown to know and love, with music he specifically composed in a concert setting.
