Snoop Dogg will be one of the torchbearers carrying the Olympic flame in the final moments before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics this Friday.
Saint-Denis Mayor Mathieu Hanotin announced that the hip-hop icon, 52, will carry the Olympic flame through the streets of his town.
"Saint-Denis, the final stop before the Eiffel Tower. An international cast @SnoopDogg for the final journey of the Olympic flame," Hanotin wrote in French on X, formerly Twitter.
According to Le Monde, French rapper MC Solaar, retired pole vaulter Sergey Bubka from Ukraine, and actress Laetitia Casta from France will also carry the torch that day.
The torch for the 2024 Olympic Games was first lit in April in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Games. According to the International Olympic Committee, the tradition represents "peace and friendship among nations since antiquity."
After traveling through Greece, the flame reached Marseille in France on May 8. Celebrities carried the flame, including former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, F1 driver Charles Leclerc, and actress Halle Berry.
Since then, it has passed through several French regions and is expected to reach the Seine before Friday's opening ceremony.
Snoop will mark the 67th leg of the flame's journey. The final torchbearer, who will take the flame from Snoop and light the Olympic cauldron, is still unknown.
Snoop shared screenshots of the news on Instagram with the caption, "U gots to do it!!"
Along with carrying the torch, Snoop will also be an official NBC Olympics correspondent for the Games.
The rapper will be busy this year contributing to NBC's primetime Olympics coverage each night. In athletics, he is likely best known for the Snoop Youth Football League, whose championship game is called the Snooper Bowl.
