Toby Gad, a songwriter who worked with Madonna on her album "Rebel Heart," has shared how the pop icon would allegedly discreetly fire people she doesn't like.
Gad revealed to the Daily Mail that while he was working with the artist on her 2014 album, there had been rumors circulating within their circle about the consequences of upsetting Madonna.
According to the songwriter, it is thought that a displeasing action or word would prompt Madonna to excuse herself to "go to the bathroom."
Soon after, Madonna's assistant would approach the person who crossed the artist and tell them, "Here's your ticket home and the taxi is waiting downstairs. You have five minutes to vacate the premises. She does not want to see you when she comes back."
While the rumor remains unverified, Gad admitted that he feared this would happen to him after he told the "Material Girl" hitmaker "f**k you" during one tense exchange in the studio.
"Madonna is an incredible performer and her stage shows are unbelievable. She's iconic, but vocally I felt maybe we could expand it a little bit," he recalled of their recording session.
He worked alongside Madonna to bring her performance to new heights, encouraging her to dig deeper and infuse more passion into her delivery.
"And I felt maybe Madonna can get just a little better with the performance. So I kept telling her, do it again and try to feel it more and try it again and again -- maybe just put more passion into it and so on," Gad explained.
However, at one point, Madonna allegedly got fed up.
"At some point she was like, 'F**k you, Toby. I'm not singing this again,'" Gad claimed.
In a moment of impulse, his response to Madonna's comment was blunt.
"And I instinctively said, 'F**k you, Madonna, you are singing this again,'" the songwriter told the outlet.
Gad said his words were followed by a long silence, and he expected Madonna to excuse herself to "go to the bathroom" and discreetly fire him. But Madonna apparently did not take offense as she continued to work with him following that tense moment.
"That didn't happen, and somehow we bonded over this, and we spent another five weeks together in total," he shared.
"We were all a little nervous, but thankfully, that didn't happen to us," Gad added, referring to Madonna's alleged firing method.
