Katy Perry's parents Keith and Mary Hudson have been making donations to Donald Trump and the Republican Party despite their daughter's alignment with the Democratic Party.
According to The Sun, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records showed that since 2019, Mary has made 78 contributions to the GOP, including Trump's presidential bids, with amounts ranging from $0.34 to $1,000.
In contrast, Keith has made just a single donation to the Republican Party within this period.
Despite the many scandals surrounding Trump, the Pentecostal preachers have continued to publicly support the Republican presidential nominee.
Following his felony conviction in late May, Mary took to X, formerly Twitter, to respond to a tweet about Trump, writing: "Jesus was a convicted felon."
Mary is active in the political scene, and ran for a leadership position with the Santa Barbara County Republican Party in March. She finished fourth in the district with a 12% share of the vote.
Meanwhile, Perry -- whose real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson -- has consistently shown her allegiance to the Democratic Party. She joined Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail in 2016 and openly endorsing both her and President Joe Biden.
Despite their opposing political leanings, Perry said in 2016 that she still loves her parents, and wasn't mad that they voted for Trump in the 2016 presidential election, according to Time magazine.
News of the Hudsons' donations came amid Perry's recent comeback in the pop music scene -- and the setbacks she's encountered since.
Observers have highlighted Perry's attempt to blend her playful early career image, as seen in her album "One of the Boys," with her empowering fem-pop phase in the "Woman's World" era. However, the mom-of-one seemed to have missed the mark on both accounts.
An unnamed music industry insider told the New York Post, "It's as if she was trying to cash in on [2023 movie] 'Barbie' and women power. She missed the mark by so far."
"It's like you want to empower women, but then you fall into the old misogynistic tropes of, 'I can't do music videos without showing my b****s or a*s,'" the insider added.
Regrettably, the trend is evident in the data. Perry's new single "Woman's World" entered Spotify's U.S. chart at No. 110 on July 11. Then, in just one day, it disappeared from the rankings.
Critics also noted that four out of the six songwriters on Perry's new song are men -- not exactly a world for women.
The Daily Mail reported that the "I Kissed A Girl" singer is feeling overwhelmed as her return phase took a disappointing turn after the song failed to resonate with audiences, critics, and the public.
"Katy is freaking out right now because she is very aware of the feedback that 'Woman's World' is getting. She is pointing the fingers at everyone but herself, but it is her own fault," an unnamed source told the outlet.
The insider claimed, "You don't make a song about female empowerment with basically all men... she is not using her star power to make change in the world -- she is using it to make money."
