It was touch and go whether 50 Cent would make an appearance at Dr. Dre's Super Bowl performance in 2022, with rumors swirling that Jay-Z's Roc Nation could have been a deciding factor.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 50 Cent shared insights on his experience during the Super Bowl LVI halftime show, which also showcased performances by Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige.
During the interview, 50 Cent revealed why his name was not on the list when the performers for the highly-anticipated show were first announced.
"[Roc Nation] wanted to leave me out of it. They didn't want me there," 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, claimed.
He said that Eminem, who initially discovered 50 Cent and supported him in launching his highly successful debut album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" in 2003, allegedly put his foot down and gave the label an ultimatum.
"Eminem wouldn't do it without me," 50 Cent claimed.
"That's how I ended up on the show because he was not coming if I didn't do it. When that happens, you go, 'Damn, so you just lost Eminem because you didn't bring 50? Damn. All right. Bring 50 then,'" the rapper told the publication.
"But if it was up to them, they would not have me there. I'm the surprise. I'm not on the bill at all. But they couldn't get Em to do it without me," he added.
The "In da Club" hitmaker and Jay-Z have continuously found themselves at odds. Meanwhile, 50 Cent and Eminem have enduring respect for each other, and the bond between the duo will continue to flourish with the announcement of a new venture.
50 Cent's G-Unit Film and Television company revealed plans to create a series inspired by Eminem's iconic "8 Mile" movie from 2002, ensuring that their collaborative legacy will thrive for years.
According to THR, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, said, "50 is like a brother to me."
"50 has proven again and again that there's really nothing he can't do, and nobody gets in the way of him getting it done," added.
