Britney Spears' journey in the entertainment industry is set to hit the big screen soon, and fans are already making predictions on who will play the pop superstar.
Securing the rights to her autobiography "The Woman In Me," Universal Pictures emerged victorious over prominent figures such as Margot Robbie and Shonda Rhimes who reportedly expressed interest in the book.
In addition to Spears' narrative, trade newsletter the Ankler reported that Universal acquired the rights to her complete music library for the biopic following a substantial eight-figure deal, ensuring that her iconic pop anthems will be part of the soundtrack.
After news that a biopic is in the works made headlines, several names immediately popped up on social media as potential candidates to play Britney, a music icon with over 150 million records sold worldwide and whose tumultuous personal life has garnered significant attention since her debut.
While no official casting announcements have been made so far, fans wasted no time delving into a frenzy of speculation, eagerly trying to predict the chosen actress to portray Spears.
Former Disney star-turned-singer Sabrina Carpenter quickly emerged as a popular choice.
"Euphoria" and "Madame Web" actress Sydney Sweeney may not be as musically talented as some of her peers, but fans couldn't help but notice the striking resemblance between her and Spears and suggested she could show her impressive acting skills in the more intense scenes of "The Woman in Me."
Former Disney star Bella Thorne also caught the attention of fans who envisioned her as a potential candidate to portray the "Baby One More Time" singer not only due to her sometimes-blonde appearance but also because of her authentic social media presence that mirrors Spears.
Elle Fanning was another top choice after she made a striking transformation into Spears for Halloween 2022, wearing a green bra, shorts, a cape, and a headset microphone, with a prop snake elegantly draped around her neck. This ensemble was a tribute to Spears' iconic appearance at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards while performing "I'm A Slave 4 U."
Another popular suggestion, "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown, stood out in this lineup for one particular reason -- she once said that her dream role was portraying Spears in a biopic.
Meanwhile, a movie insider revealed to The Sun that it's going to be a huge challenge to fit every part of Spears' life into one movie.
"But she has been told in no uncertain terms that things won't be sugar-coated, and it will very much show all of her lows, as well as her career-defining highs," the unnamed source said.
"That is going to be hard for her to watch but she is being involved in all aspects of the film and was part of the team deciding who would get to move forward in bringing her story to the big screen," the insider added.
With sales exceeding 2.5 million copies in the U.S., "The Woman In Me" achieved the remarkable feat of reaching the top spot on The New York Times best-seller list.
