Kesha's set at Lollapalooza 2024 could have potentially turned ugly as one of her props turned out to be not a prop at all.
On Thursday, Kesha took the stage alongside other top performers on the first day of Lollapalooza 2024 in Chicago, Illinois.
Grant Park was packed with over 100,000 fans eager to see their beloved artists perform live at the yearly music festival.
During the 37-year-old singer's performance on the IHG Hotels & Resorts stage, she surprised the audience by incorporating a prop knife and fake blood into her act, leaving fans on the edge of their seats as she performed her song "Backstabber."
However, the "Die Young" singer confessed on X, formerly Twitter, later on that the knife she was waving during the show wasn't fake but real.
Kesha alleged that someone had replaced the prop with a real butcher knife without her knowledge after it went missing.
"Sooooo apparently the prop knife went missing and they replaced it with a real butcher knife stolen from the kitchen. and [I] didn't know. [T]ill now. [S]o watch that again..." she tweeted.
Many social media users were disgusted over the alleged treatment of the singer.
X user @thankunext06 commented, "This is so unprofessional."
"And if you had decided to improvise???" @tomxev wrote. "An inquiry should be put in with your team and someone should be held accountable. That's sooooo bad."
"It's giving Britney [Spears]," @IAMnotAMurderer opined.
This comes nearly a month after Kesha was first seen waving a knife on stage during an Independence Day performance, causing a stir among her fans who were taken aback by this unexpected move that symbolized a significant milestone in her artistic journey.
At the time, the "Joyride" hitmaker was performing at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and her set proceeded smoothly until an unexpected turn of events unfolded.
Kesha suddenly brought a weapon on stage, causing discomfort among audience members.
Concerned fans have since expressed their dismay on social media platforms.
As a video of that performance began circulating, fans swiftly drew comparisons between her show and a previous controversial act by Spears.
In addition to the knife and fake blood, another Kesha moment at Lollapalooza caught the eye of fans.
When it came to the "Backstabber" lyric, "Katie's to my left, rippin' my style," Kesha sang only the first line before a look of disgust crossed her features.
This was particularly notable in light of her stance against Katy Perry's recent collaborations with Dr. Luke, whom Kesha had accused of both emotional abuse and sexual assault in a legal battle spanning over a decade.
