St. Vincent is not a fan of one of John Mayer's hit songs.
While promoting her latest release "All Born Screaming" and tour, St. Vincent discussed the most impactful songs of her life in a new interview with Kerrang.
When the Grammy winner -- whose real name is Annie Clark -- was asked to name the track she believes is the "worst song ever written," she chose Mayer's 2003 hit, "Daughters."
"It's just so hideously sexist but it pretends to be a love song, but it's really, really retrograde and really sexist," St. Vincent explained. "And I hate it... It's so deeply misogynistic, which would be fine if you owned that, but it pretends like it's sweet."
In the song, Mayer warns fathers that mistreating their daughters will cause problems for the men their daughters will eventually date.
"Fathers, be good to your daughters / Daughters will love like you do / Girls become lovers who turn into mothers / So mothers, be good to your daughters too," he sings in the chorus.
He continues: "Boys will be strong / And boys soldier on / But boys would be gone without warmth from / A woman's good, good heart."
"Daughters," from Mayer's 2003 album "Heavier Things," peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Pop Airplay chart and reached No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart, according to Billboard. In 2005, it won the Grammy Award for song of the year.
Last year, St. Vincent and Mayer shared a stage at the Love Rocks NYC event.
St. Vincent is scheduled to return to the U.K. and Europe in October to continue her "All Born Screaming" tour.
She started the tour in May, hitting the road with the Heartworms and performing at London's Royal Albert Hall and other European venues.
She also has shows in North America in August and September.
