University of Virginia student Hannah Graham went missing more than a week ago, and now Charlottesville police have issued a warrant in her disappearance. Jesse Matthew is the last person believed to have seen Graham alive, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued on suspicion of abduction with intent to defile.
Earlier this week, a second search warrant had been issued for Matthew's apartment and specific clothing was found and sent to the lab for testing.
Matthew went in to police headquarters last Saturday and immediately asked for an attorney. He answered no questions and drove off so quickly that it resulted in reckless driving charges. He has not been seen or heard from since, and a manhunt is currently underway.
Matthew's landlord said his tenant has not been home since last Thursday and that both his roommates have moved out. Matthew is known to have contacts in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Virginia and Washington.
Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo believes Matthew has information about what happened to Graham and is determined to talk to him.
Graham was seen Sept. 12 in the downtown area after leaving a party. The 18-year-old was turned away at a pub before being seen running past a gas station. Surveillance video puts her at a bar having drinks with a man between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. Police believe Graham was under the influence of alcohol and likely unable to defend herself.
Police are currently following up on more than 100 tips connected to the case, and there is a $50,000 reward for information leading to Graham's safe return.
