After 30 years as the lead guitarist of the iconic rock 'n roll band Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora has announced his departure from the band. This news comes in the middle of the bands "Because We Can" tour, which will go on as scheduled. Sambora has allegedly been missing a number of these concert dates this year, leading up to his retirement from the band. There have been no statements from the specific people involved, but spokespeople have made some announcements.
"There were a lot of well-documented problems, so this was the best decision for now," a source said of Richie's quitting. A representative for Bon Jovi had no comment.
In regards to Sambora missing some of the "Because We Can" tour dates this year, the band addressed that a few months ago.
"Due to personal issues, Richie Sambora will not be performing on this upcoming leg," a statement on the band's website read on April 3. "All shows will go on as scheduled."
Sambora is still set to collect songwriting royalties and profits from merchandise involved with Bon Jovi, according to reports.
Richie, a New Jersey native, has been with the band since it was formed back in 1983. Over this 30-year career, the band has released 12 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 3 compilation projects. In 2009, Richie and Jon Bon Jovi (who has yet to address this news) were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame together, back in 2009.
