Nas has been riding pretty high this past year with the premiere of his documentary Time is Illmatic, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of his classic debut album Illmatic. To make things even better, we'll probably be getting some new music from the legendary New York rapper very, very soon. In an interview with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1, Nas hints at the release of some new music in the near future, possibly even today.
"Yes...real soon," Nas replies when asked if he's got any new music in the works, "Maybe sooner than next week." When Martinez asks if he's got any new music coming out that day (which was yesterday, Oct. 1), Nas answers, "Maybe tomorrow." So be on the lookout for a new Nas single today, or sometime in the next few days.
This isn't the first time that Nas has hinted at new music over the last few weeks. In his guest verse on Schoolboy Q's recent remix of "Studio," Nas raps, "Finished up my new album, single 'bout to be droppin'."
Earlier in the interview, Nas also discusses his famous Jay Z diss track "Ether," which was a response to Jay Z's track "Takeover" from 2001's The Blueprint, and claims that he doesn't relate to it anymore. "I don't feel anything from it," he said, "It's old...it's another chapter...I don't listen to that." As to his current relationship with Jay Z, Nas assures, "We chillin', we so good right now."
