Blake Shelton Addresses Latest Divorce Rumors

If you're a fan of The Voice, you know that Blake Shelton isn't one who gets tongue-tied easily, so he's not a "man of a few words." However, there are some subjects that are so dear to his heart that only a few words are needed to get his point across. His marriage to Miranda Lambert is one of those topics so when he responded on Twitter to the latest rumors of trouble in the Shelton-Lambert household, he was able to say it all in 140 characters or less.

Apparently, the latest issue of In Touch said that the two singers have been "leading separate lives for months ever since both started their respective concert tours this summer." Unnamed sources went on to say that the separation has caused problems in their marriage and they are (for about the 110th time) headed towards divorce.

Blake read about his marriage troubles and responded on his official Twitter, saying, "Maybe because the divorce rate is so high the tabloids have just decided to play the odds with me and Miranda. Morons.. #eata*ick"

One has to wonder why it is that Blake and Miranda are constantly targets for the tabloids. Some have even said that with that much smoke, there has to be a fire somewhere. Let's break it down to see if we can figure it out ...

  1. The obvious --- it's the tabloids! Gossip magazines and websites survive on (wait for it) gossip! By definition, gossip is "casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true." If you are 12 or older, you've had a rumor started about you that wasn't even on the same planet as the truth. Think back to 6th or 7th grade when some other kid started the rumor that you liked so and so (with so and so being the one person you wouldn't like even if they were the last person remaining on the planet). Remember the whispers, snickers when you walked by and conversations that would stop when you walked into the room? It happened to you so why find it so hard to believe that it could happen to Blake and Miranda?
  2. This divorce rumor appears to have started with In Touch. If you Google In Touch Magazine, you get "In Touch Weekly: Celebrity Gossip and Entertainment News." Celebrity Gossip ... (see point #1)
  3. They say that the two have been "leading separate lives for months ever since both started their respective concert tours this summer." Well OK - and? I mean, come on! They're both artists. Being professionals, they're going to have to tour if they want to keep a fan base. There are plenty of professions out there that mean one or both spouses are away from home for long stretches of time. Military? Check. Long haul truck drivers? Check. Professional athletes? Check. Pilots, commercial fishermen, reporters ... the list goes on and on. Does that mean that any couple who isn't spending every night in the same bed is doomed for divorce? Let's hope not!
  4. Blake and Miranda are both famous so anything written about them (especially something scandalous) is guaranteed to sell issues or get clicks and those big numbers are what bring in advertising dollars.

So before you believe anything you hear/read on the internet, check the original source and then do a gut check. In Blake and Miranda's case, according to the tabloids, they're getting divorced more frequently than most people change their underwear. If there were really THAT much turmoil in their household, do you honestly believe they would still be together after three years?
