Melissa Rivers to Sue Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic Over Joan Rivers's Botched Biopsy That Led to Cardiac Arrest

Melissa Rivers deciding to file a malpractice lawsuit against the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic was probably inevitable, given the facts that have been learned. Joan Rivers was admitted to the facility for a routine endoscopy on her throat and she never regained consciousness after being put under sedation and suffering cardiac arrest. Joan Rivers had never signed off on any paperwork authorizing a biopsy should the doctor's have found anything while she was unconscious, and the fact is that Dr. Gwen Korovin opted to perform one anyway.

It was that decision made on the spot that ultimately allegedly cost Joan Rivers her life because her vocal cords seized up, blocking off her air supply, which sent the comedienne into full cardiac arrest. Dr. Lawrence Cohen was medical director for the clinic, but stepped down once a full investigation was launched and he is no longer practicing medicine there, either.

The endoscopic procedure Joan Rivers had scheduled was a routine minor surgery, and some have said biopsies are never performed there because they are not equipped to handle an emergency situation like a regular hospital could.

Korovin is reportedly in hiding and also not practicing medicine right now. She is also rumored to have taken a selfie of herself in the operating room with Joan Rivers, something that has outraged friends and fans alike.

Melissa Rivers realizes that at this point nothing she does will bring her mother back, but someone has to be held accountable. While Joan Rivers was 81, it has been made obvious that she did not have to die under these circumstances.

Do you think Melissa Rivers is holding off on filing that lawsuit until all the information from the official investigation is in? Will malpractice charges eventually be filed, or will this case stay in civil court and be hashed out in the media? Comment below.
