Childish Gambino wasted no time in releasing his new EP KAUAI, which dropped yesterday (Oct. 4), two days after he made his STN MTN project available.
Fans can currently stream the seven-track EP via Spotify (listen below), MTV News reports. Gambino took to Twitter yesterday to alert his followers. Jaden Smith appears on the EP as "The Boy" on tracks like "Pop Thieves (Make It Feel Good)" and "Late Night in Kauai." The final tune is a remix of the rapper's 2013 hit "3005," which was included on Gambino's LP Because The Internet.
The two EPs are semi-companion pieces as Gambino has stated that STN MTN goes right into the new material as he wakes up from a dream in Kauai. "It's a Gangsta Grillz mixtape that goes into an EP," he said about the project. "The Gangsta Grillz mixtape is a dream, and the dream ends when I wake up in Kauai. And they go into each other; it's one complete project. You can download the mixtape and you can go buy the EP. The money from the EP goes to help keeping Kauai clean."
Last month, Gambino made some interesting remarks to Hot 97 about the rap genre. "We never wanted to make a rap album," he said. "I've talked about this before. Rap is done. Rap is done. I love hip-hop. I love rap, but the thing it was supposed to do it doesn't do anymore. Like I love it as a music. It's the same thing as like jazz. Jazz when it was doing what it was supposed to do. And people still listen to jazz now, but it doesn't have—It's not doing the social work it's supposed to do anymore."
