This past year has clearly been a time of transformation for Nicki Minaj. Sure she still likes to throw shade and she is also undoubtedly one of the hardest working women in the rap game, but she has also calmed down just a bit. Gone are the crazy costumes and day-glo wigs. More often than not when Minaj shows up, she looks pretty normal while still being a woman with a clear cut mission. She has run her own business affairs from day one and now admits that there are other goals besides work on the horizon.
In a new interview in the October issue of Vogue Italia, Minaj admits that she has laid out for herself a 4-year plan to make $500 million and then walk away for awhile. At 32-years old Minaj is well-aware of her ticking biological clock and the fact is she wants a family...relatively soon.
"I gave myself a time limit to reach my professional goals. I don't want to work my whole life without ever experiencing the joys of a family- an upright man, who will take care of me. The time is not yet ripe, but when I decide to get married and become a mother, I would like to take a hiatus and dedicate myself completely to my child. Family has always been very important to me, and that is why I want to wait until the right moment before starting my own. Right now I am too busy, but at a certain point the situation will change."
If the goal of earning $500 million and leaving a permanent mark on the rap industry came from anyone else it could easily be dismissed as a lofty dream but when left in Minaj's hands it seems almost realistic. It has taken grit and determination to be able to run with the big boys and Minaj has made it look fairly easy so we have to think that whatever goal this chick puts in front of herself seems attainable.
Do you think that Minaj will really walk away from the industry completely even for a brief time? Or is she more likely to decide to keep her foot in the door for creativity's sake? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
