5 Seconds of Summer were forced to cancel two international trips this month after band member Ashton Irwin came down with a nasty case of appendicitis, leading to an emergency surgery. The "Good Girls" band has had to scrap plans to appear at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards this weekend and a short tour of Japan.
5SOS made the unfortunate cancellation announcement today (Oct. 15) on its official website.
The band pointed out that Irwin was forced to undergo an operation in Australia after suffering from appendicitis, and that even though 5SOS can't make it to the Radio 1 Teen Awards, that the band will reschedule its Japan trip at a later date.
"Ashton has come down with a case of appendicitis and had to have an operation. He's doing great and will be back up & running in no time, but he'll need to rest up for the next week or so," the band wrote. "Unfortunately this means that we'll no longer be able to fly back to the UK this weekend for the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards. We will also be postponing next week's trip to Japan (more info to come soon)."
5SOS apologized to its fans for the inconvenience and also thanked everyone for being so supportive... and they'll pay it back in full... minus "one band appendix."

"Hi guys, we have some news for you today. Ashton has come down with a case of appendicitis and had to have an operation. Unfortunately this means that we'll no longer be able to fly back to the UK this weekend for the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards. We are so sorry to everyone that had planned on seeing us. We were so excited to come see you all and we never want to make any of you sad... We hope you understand!
Thanks so much for supporting all we do, we love you. Can't wait for us four lads to get back on the road (minus one band appendix) and rock out with you all again soon!
Ash, Cal, Mikey & Luke x"
The news is surely crushing to 5 Seconds of Summer fans who were hoping to catch the boys on the road, but there's still something new from 5SOS to obsess over until Irwin is feeling better... a new music video for the 5 Seconds of Summer single "Good Girls," which was released last week.
