Every year, Jason Aldean has one show that he puts on his tour schedule called "Concert for the Cure." The show is to support breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. A portion of his ticket sales goes towards a special fund and at the end of the Concert for the Cure, he takes that fund and presents it to the Komen chapter in the city he's playing the show in. This year, that show was in Detroit and the check was for $660,000.
In a press release, he talked about it his involvement, saying, "We always try and have a lot of fun with our Komen show each year. It isn't just about raising money to help find a cure, it's also about celebrating everyone who is going through treatment now and those who've been able to beat the disease. I think it is a great way to end release week in an area of the country that could use a little help. It should be a great week from start to finish!"
Fans at the Detroit show got to see a video of Robin Roberts interviewing Jason where he explained why he spends so much time and energy supporting Komen. The disease touched him personally when a family friend died from the disease. He started using his platform to help.
He told the crowd, "I think he first year we ever did this, we were excited because we raised $30,000 for the Susan G. Komen Nashville chapter." He then shared that the money raised each year goes towards breast cancer awareness as well as helping pay for mammograms.
Komen Detroit Race for the Cure Co-chair Katrina Studvent was on hand to accept the check. She said, "To be able to get this kind of money, and to go to the table with it next year means so much. Getting this large lump sum of money surpasses what many of our sponsorship dollars bring in. It's huge."
