GWAR Covers 'West End Girls' by Pet Shop Boys and Pays Tribute to Fallen Friends with Jim Carroll's 'People Who Died' [LISTEN]

GWAR has once again completely owned A.V. Club's Undercover segment, performing a hellish rendition of Pet Shop Boys's "West End Girls" and a touching Dave Brockie tribute with Jim Carroll's "People Who Died."

Fans of the band and A.V. Club's fun series can still recall GWAR's epic savage-rock cover of the Kansas tune "Carry on Wayward Son" from 2012, which is one for the books. This time around, the shock rockers are without longtime frontman Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus, in physical form, but the band continues to honor the spirit of the fallen singer.

After playing a vicious cover of 1984's "West End Girls" by Pet Shop Boys, GWAR launched into Jim Carroll's 1980 ode to those who have died: "People Who Died."

The band changed up the lyrics to the latter, though, citing fallen friends of GWAR nation. The climax comes during the fourth verse in the video below.

"Dave died alone in his chair in his room," new frontman Blothar sings, referring to Brockie's overdose in March. "He had just turned 50, it was way too soon / Oderus's boat went up in flames / Now all of Vallhalla chants his name / Oderus, I miss you more than all the others / I salute you my brother."

See the full lyrics at A.V. Club's website.

GWAR also appeared with newly added frontwoman Vulvatron, who has been performing with the band on their GWAR Eternal Tour. The group has dates scheduled through the end of the year.

Their most recent release, Battle Maximus, was released in September 2013.
