Throughout the whole Sun Kil Moon vs. The War on Drugs debacle/feud/spectacle, War on Drugs frontman Adam Granduciel remained nobly tight-lipped, even though it would have been easy for him to fire back. But in a new interview with music blog Songs for Whoever, Granduciel finally opens up about the situation, calling Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek an “idiot” and a “prick,” among other things, revealing what was happening behind the scenes of their previously one-sided feud.
“I mean, to be fair to that idiot, what he said in that song ... I didn’t really have a problem with any of it until I heard the song,” Granduciel said, referring to Sun Kil Moon’s recent diss track “War on Drugs: Suck My C--k." “First of all, he never met us, and yet said all these things. He’s such a douche.”
Granduciel also discussed Kozelek’s offer to perform with The War on Drugs in San Francisco, and admitted he was excited about it at first.
“We were on tour and I thought, ‘This is actually a pretty cool idea, I don’t have anything against this guy, this is cool,’” he said, before explaining why the collaboration did not come to fruition. “Then two days later I get an email back from him, saying, ‘The offer has expired, maybe when I get home from tour I’ll go to Starbucks and buy your record.'”
