Jerrod Niemann has accomplished a lot over the past four years; a No. 1 single ("Lover, Lover") a No. 1 airplay cut ("Drink To That All Night") and a No. 1 album (Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury) have all come since 2010.
But tying the knot with his new wife Morgan Petek might be the most surprising achievement.
"To be honest, I was one of those guys who never thought I would probably ever get married," Niemann told Taste of Country. "Not because I was too cool, but because I didn't think anybody would want to put up with me that long! It's only been a couple of weeks, but I've got to say, there's just something, a peacefulness to it.
"I don't want to be a cliche, like 'You complete me,' but there is just this feeling that you're on a team now. You get to face everything together, and it just makes it a little easier. She's going to school, and I'm on the road a lot, and it's great, 'cause when we get together we have that time that we need to make up for. You don't really get bored, 'cause you're always missing one another."
Niemann is currently on Get Back Your Buzz Tour, which features a song - "Buzz Back Girl" - he nabbed from buddy Lee Brice.
"He said, 'I have one on my new album that I feel like is similar, so I'm not gonna record it,'" Niemann said. "So I said, 'Well man, I'll record it, if you don't mind.' I just liked it because I love a song that makes you tap your foot, plus I do a lot of partying songs, but I don't have any hangover cure songs. So what I like about this is, I went out last night, and now you wake up and instead of going and drinking or whatever, you just cuddle up to the one you love and get your day going, and get your buzz back. It's sort of a love song disguised by a drinking song."
The 35-year-old said the tour is not a slopfest, despite the name.
"It's not about saying, 'Hey, come get trashed with us,'" he said. "It's saying hey, come have some fun and get your buzz back, get your everyday life off your mind.
"That's our job. When people are kind enough to spend their hard-earned money to let us play them some tunes, the least we can do is try to get everything off their mind for 90 minutes to two hours, and help them get their metaphorical or their literal buzz back, depending on their preferences."
Niemann has been on the road since August.
"Music is a drug," he said when announcing the dates. "It's one of the only ways to heal certain hearts, clear certain minds and sooth certain souls."
