Willie Nelson will be hosting a new television series, Inside Arlyn, which sounds more like an excuse to hang out with old friends more than anything else.
Merle Haggard and Gary Clark, Jr. will be featured in the first two episodes.
"It's going to unfold organically, so we'll see as we go," Aryln Studios co-owner Lisa Fletcher told CultureMap. "They're going to hang out and chat."
What is the show about, exactly? From CM: Inside Arlyn is a 13-episode series featuring intimate live performances filmed at Austin's Arlyn Studios, plus behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with music legends new and old - although "interview" might be too formal a word to describe the magic that's expected to happen.
Nelson is Fletcher's uncle-in-law, and is the former owner of the Austin Opera House, which currently holds Arlyn Studios.
"He's our family, for one thing, and he's very involved in our whole world," Fletcher said. "He was our first choice.
"I'm so over the moon that we can share [the studio with the public]. People don't get to go in recording studios, let alone sit on the floor with Willie and Merle right in front of them."
Willie hasn't been too busy over the past few years, but his son Lukas has been killing it.
"I've been hearing my licks come back better than they went out," the elder Nelson joked to Rolling Stone in August.
Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real released their third album, Love Yourself, this summer, and the younger Nelson said the track "Find Yourself" has special meaning.
"This is my favorite song on the record - the most personal to me and yet I think anyone can relate to it," he said. "I always feel like I'm cleaning my soul out when I sing it. It's my tribute to the soul musicians I grew up idolizing, and it's really fun to play live."
