Prince has officially decided to try out the latest 2014 trend, albeit with a 2008 MySpace twist. Today, Prince decided to try his hand at taking selfies and used his SLR camera, not a cellphone, as has been in vogue lately. An ode to the days of MySpace bathroom mirror pictures, Prince took a mirror selfie but upped the ante with the nice camera and spotlighting on him, according to Business Insider.
His publicist released a statement to the Huffington Post about the selfie: "Prince used an old-school camera because he doesn't own a cellphone. He jokingly says, 'We ban their usage anywhere around Us because We're allergic 2 lithium and Everybodyelsies."
It is important to note that apparently Prince does not have a cellphone. He must believe he was able to tour and make music without one 30 years ago, so he does not need one now. Life would be simpler sometimes without a cellphone.
An eclectic man who still lives back in his house in Minnesota, eschewing the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles, Prince is not one who caught up with the new social media age. He joined Facebook to do a fan Q&A, answered one question about the right frequency you should be listening to your music at and then disappeared back into the Internet shadows.
Maybe he is playing ping-pong with his horn section.
His lack of digital presence can be forgiven because he is still able to put out music and tour like a madman. He recently released not just one, but two albums for Warner Music Group: one, Art Official Age, under his own name and another, Plectrum Electrum, as his band, 3rd Eye Girl.
To promote the album, he went on Saturday Night Live last month, and in Prince fashion he played an eight-minute jam with three new tracks: "Clouds," "Marz" and "Anotherlove."
