2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys' classic single "Good Vibrations," and to celebrate, singer Mike Love will be releasing a memoir titled Good Vibrations: My Life as a Beach Boy. According to Rolling Stone, the memoir is being co-written with author James S. Hirsch and will cover Love's entire life, beginning with his "early childhood and family story."
"Love will share the story behind the group's unparalleled hit-making in the 1960s, including the music celebrated the California lifestyle as well as the recording of Pet Sounds and other seminal albums," reads a press release (via Rolling Stone). "[He] will talk about his own spiritual journey through transcendental meditation, his complex relationship with Brian Wilson, and the enduring appeal of the Beach Boy sound."
Love founded the Beach Boys in 1961 with his cousins Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, along with their friend Al Jardine on guitar. In 2012, Love reunited with Jardine and Brian Wilson (the other two Wilson brothers have passed away) for a 50th anniversary tour and a new album, though by the end of 2012 the band had split up once again, with Love firing Jardine and Wilson. Love continues to tour under the Beach Boys name with a different backing band, while Wilson (the band's true mastermind and primary composer, it should be noted) continues to tour solo.
"I've had an incredible life with a lot triumphs, my share of heartbreak and some pretty amazing experiences," Love said in a statement. "There are a lot of things I haven't shared before, and I'm looking forward to opening up about my life and my work in this book. It's a story about family, music, a country in transition, and audiences all over the world coming together in harmony."
