The Libertines are giving fans another portal into their creative process and tour life with Don't Look Back Into the Sun, their second documentary in three years.
Roger Sargent, who filmed 2012's There Are No Innocent Bystanders, returned to film the new project, which was announced Monday, Nov. 24, after a series of cryptic social media posts last week.
"No more teasing ... all of these pictures and quotes are taken from a wonderful short film that Roger Sargent made for us ahead of our recent tour," the announcement read. "We'll be unveiling the film in full soon, so keep your eyes on the Good Ship Albion as it sets course once again."
Back in 2012, Sargent talked about what went into making a Libertines doc.
"Basically after rumors got out about the band's impending reformation, a whole bunch of producers and directors (famous ones!) approached management to try and make a film with the band," he told The Fly. "It was soon decided that to have possible non-friendlies around would be potentially horrific, so I was summoned in for a meeting to ask how comfortable I would feel doing a film myself. It was some honor to have that trust from both the band and the band's management."
The film featured fly-on-the-wall shots and a rougher composition on the whole.
"It would certainly be wrong to shoot The Libertines in a slick, polished way, a lot of the situations I was in could only be shot hand-held because of the intimacy required — if I pulled out a big broadcast camera everybody would have just migrated away from me!" he said. "I think that certainly dictated the feel of the film moving forwards. I also think that it gives the viewer a greater sense of being there, too."
