If you have access to BBC 6 Radio and are looking for something to do while celebrating the holidays this December, you'll have the chance to listen in as three excellent female performers take charge of the DJ booth on Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day (December 26) respectively. The channel has announced that "three wise women" will curate the soundtrack for at least a few hours on each of those days: St. Vincent, Neneh Cherry and Alison Goldfrapp, respectively (from Pitchfork).
Each of the performers has already announced what to expect from their sets (in case you're on the fence). Hint: There's not much Christmas music planned.
Annie "St. Vincent" Clark will dig into the channel's archives for an episode of its "The First Time" series featuring David Byrne (a performer that she herself has worked with in the past) as well as a documentary on Kate Bush's The Hounds of Love and Nirvana's Nevermind. She'll also play a themed show from Iggy Pop that was previously aired on BBC 6. Clark's set might be most appealing to traditional Christmas fans, as she promises to discuss her family's holiday traditions amidst the music.
Cherry will continue at least two of the trends Clark set in motion as the Swedish performer takes over on Christmas day. She'll also look to "The First Time," opting for the Quentin Tarantino episode and will also air a separate show from Pop. Hip-hop fans will get some love that day as Cherry will air the documentary "Looking For The Perfect Beat."
Goldfrapp will take over on the day after Christmas, again with some Pop in tow. The Goldfrapp vocalist will air the punk icon's 2014 John Peel lecture speech, as well as documentaries on composer Ennio Morricone as well as Serge Gainsbourg.
Happy holidays to our pals in the UK.
