Mississippi rappers, Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy, better known as Rae Sremmurd have enjoyed a very fruitful finish to 2014. Their single "No Flex Zone" has become a pop culture reference point, and they just made their television debut without having even releasing an album. Last night they joined the "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to perform the Mike WILL Made-It produced hits "No Flex Zone" and "No Type" with a little help from The Roots (via Rap-Up).
The rap duo impressed in their TV debut showing that they have the charisma to play on big stages, albeit meant for a home audience. While their stage presence is more suited for a crowd standing in front of them, Lee and Jimmy played off of each other and performed their songs for a PG audience without missing a beat. The Roots may be used to playing more complex compositions, but they formed quite the team as the backing band for Rae Sremmurd.
The performance comes in advance of Rae Sremmurd's debut album Sremmlife, set for release early next year on Jan. 6 via EarDrummers/Interscope. The album is shaping up to be a hit-filled affair, already seeing the inclusions of Billboard top 50 hits, "No Flex Zone" and "No Type", which an additional announced collaboration alongside Young Thug and Nicki Minaj titled "Throw $um Mo", which gets its single release Dec. 9. Mike WiLL Made-It produced the album.
Mike WiLL spoke about the album and why he liked making it in an official statement.
"The album came together so easily and organically-it was really a fun album to make," an official statement from the producer read (via Pitchfork). "I'm just as excited about this album as I was about Miley Cyrus' album, as I was about Future's album. This album is as special to me as any project I've ever been involved with. People are learning now that these guys are superstars, they're here to stay. SremmLife is just round one."
