Art Basel: Drake
Cyrus stands on stage in a sparkling silver and purple wig and a silver, trimmed-down leotard performing the song for the first time outside of her own living room.
"I've never played by myself on a stage before and you've never played a song that I've only played in my living room before, so I'm a little nervous," Cyrus explained.
Before sitting down in front of the piano on stage, she explained the inspiration behind the song. She had been having dreams about her friend's cat dying the night it did tragically died. She said, "I feel like her cat kind of told me what I was supposed to say to get her through it ... It was more therapy to me than anything."
Simple and acoustic, the song does not sound like a manufactured pop hit found on Bangerz, but something written quickly and from the heart.
In the same performance, she reportedly smoked pot on stage — something she has not been afraid to do — sang a duet with a topless woman and was joined by Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.
Though Basel is now over, the wacky and weird photos will live on for a year until next December, when musicians, actors and celebrities descend back on Miami and do it all over again in an even bigger and nuttier fashion.
