Art Basel week is a week of Art expositions in various forms from the abstract modern to the more traditional, but it is also an opportunity for the rich and famous to party together in Miami. Those who clamor down to the white Miami beaches range from famous pop stars of all types to TV celebrities and everyone in between. Many of them make guest appearances at parties throughout the city and proceed to become the life of the party. Drake made an appearance at the final night of PPP Muzik Mansion three-night bender of parties on the shore and hopped on the decks for a surprise DJ set (via Papermag).
It isn't totally clear what Drake's setlist was like, or even if he is that great a DJ, but when it comes to a pop superstar, you are going to let him go on the decks and try his hand a DJing! As noted by Do Androids Dance, this is not the first time the Toronto artist has stepped up behind the decks. He has used the occasion in the past to preview new music and taken over the DJ equipment for special occasions at ritzy clubs.
Celebrities, musicians and athletes trying their hand at DJing is nothing new. Shaquille O'Neal just launched his own DJ career as DJ Diesel in Las Vegas. Idris Elba has been DJing for a few years now and has a residency in Ibiza. Elijah Wood has been DJing for years and is heading out on tour this winter to spin vinyl as part of the duo, Wooden Wisdom.
Drake has been embroiled in some drama lately that he would surely like to have behind him. Chris Brown accused him of going on dates with his then girlfriend Karrueche Tran while Brown was in jail. Drake has kept his silence, probably because he is too busy DJing parites, but we will see how the situation plays out with Toronto "Mr. Steal Your Girl" and Chris Brown.
